Sound of My Fair King and I!

Well the week has gone well. I have nothing tonight but my son's t ball practice and other son's soccer scrimmage. I love it. No club practice or anything to do at school - I can actually be a Dad all night without worrying about others kids.
Just ate lunch with my hot wife and now have the busy afternoon schedule of an off season soccer coach. Staring at the computer/falling in and out of a nap/ reading a little/ I'm telling ya, its a hard knock life! Don't ya just love Annie. Lil girl can sing!
I'm telling ya theres nothing better than a well done musical - not one on the dang silver screen either. One that is done by actors on stage right smack in front of you. Our High School had an awesome theatre arts department and they would get the scenes and props professionally done - it was great stuff. I can only imagine one on Broadway. Gotta love Fiddler/King and I/My Fair Lady. Now lets not get carried away I would much rather see a hockey game/fight any day of the week but a well done musical is a nice change of pace! Can you tell the NHL is on strike - I just talked about musicals for a paragraph - I'm losing my mind!

Favorite Musical : Fiddler on the Roof

Do we always have to give a title?

How is everyone out there?? I had a great weekend and once again it revolved around soccer, getting sick, getting pulled over and watching the draft! We had three soccer games this weekend. My 90 boys won both their games to go 5-1-1 on the season. All we have is two tournaments left and then we are done. The girls (87's) lost two games: one we only had 10 players and the other we forfeited. Dedicated girls! They have one game left and then we are done.
I get back Sunday afternoon and played a coed soccer game (my wife scored) and it started raining. So we continued to play because this thing is a game like the national championship and there is no way we should stop it. I mean countries are depending on the game being completed! I may be a little bitter about the rain game I have to admit. After the game I feel like death warmed over. So I did the only smart thing I have done in a while and go to bed at 9pm...I felt like a champ the next morning!
So I jump out of bed feeling good and hop in my truck to head for the work place. Enter the motorcycle cop...time for Jeffy to get pulled over and find out he left his wallet at home, along with my updated insurance information, and oh yea... inspection sticker out of date because front tire almost completely bald. So if your keeping count thats a total possible ticket count of 4. I have to admit the cop thought it was funny(how busted I actually was) and gave me two tickets both of which can be dismissed when I get them updated.
How about them cowboys in the draft. I would love to give a shout out to the 'boys. We are going to have one tight defense next year all my peeps! We drafted two top level defensive linemen (One pass rusher and one guy who can play down on the line or play linebacker). We got them both in the first round and the experts are giving us an A+ for the draft. I can hear the excitment from ya'll! Well have a good week I would apoligize about not updating til today but Kirk's blog is still talking about the weekend of the 10th.

Movie Time

We watched Briget Jones: Edge of insanity or something like that last night. If Colin whats his face could be a more boring character in this movie I would be shocked. I like the actors in movies to look like a normal human and be not to pretty but good gosh poor Renee' looked a lil to much like us everyday people. Who ever decided showing less of Hugh Grant would be a good move for this film deserved the 5,000 dollars this film made. Other than those few points it was a breath of fresh air cinematically. I did however see Ray the other day and it was wonderful!! Jamie Foxx was awesome - any time you can watch a film and forget who the actor is and buy 100% into whom their playing- you got a winner!! I really enjoyed the story also. This Blockbuster.com thing is about the best. I am watching the mail box for....Metallica :Some kind of Monster. It starts out as a behind the scenes Documentary on the group but actually catches the band right as James Hetfield(lead singer) leaves because of numerous problems!! You have to watch the movie to find out how it turns out but I cannot wait - my lil metal heads! I have had the joy of seeing Metallica in concert so this film will be fun for me. I would like to appeal to all the reraders of this blog to give me a lil feedback on some current movies they really liked - my que for my blockbuster account is getting low!! Let me know boys and girls what dvd/films you have enjoyed recently.

Boredom

I'm telling you - another weekend and the same schedule. Soccer games all day Saturday and Sunday. Kelly was gone at the women's retreat and my parents were in town but I was in Dallas. It was a good time with my parents. They came in on Wednesday and got to see the boys play their soccer games and spend some time with all of us. Its well documented how I handle change but it was a good visit for me also. I have two more weekends of travel and then a break from the drive to dallas!! love it! I'm telling you nothing has really happened this weekend but those dang games. We won all four - 2 for my u-15 boys and 2 for my u-19 girls! So that was good but like I said got back late both nights. With the gas prices being so high it makes it wonderful to drive two hours one way to Dallas. I'm sure everyone else had a great weekend and I will blog about something exciting I'm sure tomorrow!

A year of honesty

I have been blessed with a burning stomach since my days in the old junior high! I think I am finally figuring out what it is!! I'm to nice! I know what everyone is thinking - how can a person who shuns all the people he comes in contact with be nice. Don't you have to communicate to show niceness? here's my theory - I know myself and I usually have a tough time saying no. I figure if I can keep from communicating to others - then they can't possibly ask for something or suggest something and therefore I can avoid a confrontation or request. Sometimes effective and passive aggressive move on my part. I don't seem to have this problem with my team (MSU) but I could with the parents of all the players I coach. This is one of the reasons I'm not a big communicator to parents on my teams. Running to the car after the games would be a good illustration (kidding)! Well I got nabbed the other day at practice. I had a player bring a note to me from their parent (this is not my college team I'm talking about - it is one of my club teams) the note said "food for thought" and had a lineup written on it. The same lineup we use, it was just that their lil player was in a different spot. Oh the joy! I know this parent will never ask if I received the note so I really won't have a chance to communicate my joy at having help in coaching. I was somewhat taken back by this because after being here for so long the parents usually don't mess with me butttttt apparently we have a brave soul who thinks they can help out.
Here's another great thing about me: someone can ask me to do something and as long as its a ways off I probably will say yes. I hate to say no to people and always figure I can make up an excuse later. Ohhh I know! I know that its"good to be a servant and help others, to have a good attitude, just don't over extend yourself". I have heard all these nuggets of advice before but it would be fun to just say NO. Or even tell someone what you are thinking about their suggestion. Whatever happened to honesty?I actually am fascinated by people that just tell it how it is - you may not like Simon (American Idol) but he is right a lot of the times. His comments are rude but they are often very true. I am a Jedi master of sarcasm but it would be fun to be very honest for about a year then see how people treat me. I would accomplish one goal - probably not many acquaintance's and the same amount of friends. Of course when you are like me and working from a number of about 5 friends its not hard to maintain.

UFC (Ultimate Fighting Coward)

T ball game yesterday for the youngster and it was a festivous for the rest of us! Honestly I am a proud Dad but I'm telling you what, by the second inning I was rooting for anyone to get out. Evan is better at listening than some. He didn't put his glove on his head for a whole inning/ throw his glove at his teammates in the field/ sit down on the field/ sing the entire time. All of which occurred during the game. I was proud that he stood there at shortstop and acted like he was ready. We don't keep score but he is sure that we won. It was fun seeing him and the others get excited to hit and run the bases.
I watched the UFC show last night and it was a replay of the bouts that Kirk blogged about. (readthefineprint.blogspot.com) Loved it - I'm telling you those were three good matches. I really don't think I would have the aggressiveness to get in the ring knowing I would get hurt. Even if I thought I was better at fighting someone. The simple fact that at some point pain is going to be involved kind turns me off to a UFC career. But.... If I was a UFC fighter my name would be like Jeff "the deer" Trimble because I would stare at the other fighter then simply start to run around the ring for 5 minutes til the bell. I could hold my hands near my face to protect and have my fingers in the air to look like antler as I ran. This name would also work well because when I got hit I would look like Bambi when he was on the ice in the movie. My legs would be all wobbly and scattered as I collapsed to the canvas. That's only if the guy caught me on the run though. My finishing move would simply be called the heart attack - named after the collapsing of the opponents heart when they tried to catch me for 5 minutes straight. I gotta look into this career more! What would your UFC name and finishing move be?

Winning, Losing and Jeff @#$%^ Gordon

Weekend Update:
Saturday - Wake at 5:30 a.m. again and go down to Dallas for my u15 boys team. This team is in the Dallas Classic League, the hardest league in this area. so every game is a lil competitive. We get down there and play great - the first ten minutes. Ithink cool we'll smack this team - 3-0 them! So then we head back home for my son's3:00pm game and that was good times. Its a lot of fun being a parent and second guessing the coach. Claiming that our son's are being held back in their development and that College and Pro scouts are watching and etc. After that brillance we head home to relax then the boys and I head to the Burney's to have a cookout and relax.

Sunday -Wake up and head to Dallas for a 11am game with my u19 girls team. We actually win 3-0 then drive like a bat out of Hell to get back for the 3pm coed game. Get back at half time play the second half long enough to kick the crap out of another guy, sub out after 10 minutes and totally play like whatever. The back home to watch the NASCAR race my wife had taped and see Jeff pretty boy Gordon win (after spinning Kurt Busch out). He then proceeds to jump out of his car and utter"Woah"like a 14 yr. old girl. Not a big Gordon fan! Then back to the Burney's for another cookout and washers (Texas game). Fun times at Ridgemont High!

Music Life

I can honestly say that almost all my life experiences have a song connected to them. To which almost every song I know, I think of where I was or who I was with or something along those lines. Its amazing - Coincidently all of Bon Jovis albums have carried me throughout my life. Each album I seemed to be at a different stage!
"Beat it" and "Thriller" bring back memories of my dad and I staying up late on Friday nights to watch Friday Night Videos (this was before MTV) to see these videos premiere. Any Bruce Springstein song reminds me of Dad because he had the "Born in the U.S.A." tape in the truck and all my friends thought he was the coolest Dad. My mom basically is the reasojn I'm a Fanilow!! Gotta love Barry Manilow - He writes the songs that make the whole world sing!!

GNR "November Rain" - Kelly andI break up (College, not sure which time 17th or 21st break up) - so my depression song.
Survivor's "the search is over" - first gf's and I's "song" Thought we would make it from 8th grade until marriage but nope....wrong again.
Van Halen's "Best of Both Worlds - soccer camp junior year, Love David but have a lot of respect for Sammy!
Kris Kross's "JUmp" - Spring Break sophomore year college no comments friends CD I was an innocent bystander to that music.
Ugly Kid Joe's - "Hate everything about you" - Spring Break Junior year college - 16th or 5th breakup
Garth Brooks "Friends in low places" - College in dorm watching the T.V. special also rapped it at a bachelor party - don't ask!
LL Cool J "Bristol Hotel" or anything by Run D.M.C. - riding to practice with seniors when I was a lil soph. in H.S.
Bob Segar "Turn the page" - listening to it in garage with Dad - he worked on the car and I never paid attention.
Outkast "Ms. Jackson" - At Chris Deges's with Josh Burgess playing a Card Game (Poker) but don't tell anyone - we bet M&M's
Vanilla Ice "Ice Ice baby" - watching video at Josh Grill's house - I admit it...I thought it was a cool song!
Steven Curtis Chapman "I will be here" - our wedding song -still here (a lil more gray hair)

I could go on and on. My point is I love that at anytime I can hear a song and have it jar my memory back to a point in my life that brings out an emotion!

Jars of Clay "Flood" - Coaching here and seeing the video on M.T.V. and couldn't believe a Christian group was getting so many record sales.

Curb your Enthusiasm

O.k. by a show of hands, how many people have watched this show "Curb your enthusiasm"? I am on Season three and its the best. Have I talked about this show yet? The creator of Seinfeld (Larry David) basically plays himself in Hollywood. His wife is not his real wife (played by an actress) but his friends are like his real friends. Richard Lewis, Paul Reiser, Ted Danson are all in it on occasion. There have been some episodes where Julia Louis Dreyfus and Jason Alexander are in them (playing themselves). Larry, of course, makes up the story lines but what he does is set up each scene as to how it will go and the rest is improvised. It makes for some realistic comedy. The show is on HBO and its just about the best. Sounds complicated but hey when you watch soccer all day you have to lock into something!
I was a judge at the sorority and fraternity "sing song" last night. The theme was the 80's so I got to listen to 12 songs from the 80's - loved it. They basically lip synced but still was a fun time. The place was packed with about 150 loud frat boys and sororiety "sisters" for this event. I did the best I could do - there was no judging on looks just talent. I am a fair and unbiased judge - I gotta keep repeating that. One group did the Bonnie Tyler song "total eclipse of the heart" - which is the greatest 80's song of all time!!

Whats your favorite 80's song???

Sunday/Funday

I think I have already given my views on Major League baseball (the same as NBA basketball) wake me up for the playoffs. I do like opening day though and how about those Cincinnati Reds!! (Thats a baseball team, Alyssa) The big red machine got a win yesterday - I'm telling ya what! I decided to take a two hour lunch to watch a lil baseball- it was good times had by all! Being a women's soccer coach in the off season I could have taken a 7 hour lunch - no one would have noticed. Which leads me to my point - Sunday "the day that did not end"!

Mission: two soccer games to coach in Dallas and three games to evaluate
Obstacles: time change/sleep deprivation/sun and wind burn

5:45 a.m. (4:45 my body's time) - wake up to get ready for the drive to Dallas
6:00 a.m. - The car leaves the driveway
6:01 - 8:15a.m - Driving/singing/drinking coffee/listening to talk radio
8:15a.m. - get team warmed up to play (15 yr.old boys) some difficulty involved
9a.m - 11a.m. - Game tied 0-0 at half and finished 2-2 its a good tie (if thats possible) though because the previous coach lost to this team 4-1 in the fall.
11a.m - 2p.m. - drive to eat and other fields to watch recruits play - sun out and watching more soccer was a definite challenge
2pm-5pm - get the girls warmed up to play then a two hour game resulting in an exciting 0-0 tie - i hate soccer
5pm-730pm - drive home/more singing/get there and return the school car
8pm - 915pm - club coaches meeting
930pm - finally back home with sunburn/exhaustion/sweat/ so i watch the NASCAR race my wife has taped and pass out!!

Fun times

I agree with my wife..its great to have a computer that actually works.
Well my fellow mafia members, I wait all day Friday for the big event. Evan's first t-ball game. I mean there has to be some college /major league scouts out for this one. The magnitude of this game shaped my day. Return some phone calls/e mails at work very difficult - well thats par for course. Next was eat lunch- it was difficult but I pulled that one out. Go home mow the lawn- that wasnt bad, plenty of time to visualize the worlds series championship - if we won this t- ball game. MSU girls practice- a lil harder to focus but its amazing how yelling at twenty yr. olds brings the heart some joy. Then game time - time to witness the quickness of the tball Reds!! Well its a lil hard to get excited when the way you end an inning is to let the other team bat around. Ohh but we also get to bat around, so its still close -the problem is... tball/baseball is the worlds most boring sport. I love baseball (played it into high school) and love the Reds/Bosox but seriously, its a slow moving game. An hour and 15 minutes of parents yelling/kids having their gloves on their heads/ balls throwing into the bullpen/ heaven. I was begging for the end of the game. I was rooting for my son to get out if it would have sped this boredom up. I am proud of Evan and want him to achieve but seriously folks Friday nights are not meant to be spent watching a boy swing seven times at a ball on a tee (missing it each time) then barely hit it and have twenty parents screaming at him to run. Coaches at this age have a tough time keeping the kids attention, well bless their hearts they have to stand with glove on for 30 minutes and not have the ball hit to them then run off "excited" to play this game of ACTION. Ohhh K I loved it and am proud of my son but I'm sooo glad the season is over.. "What honey? " "Thats our first game?" @#%$&^*(()&^%$%##@#
