Alec

Well my oldest has joined the boy scouts. It actually is an amazing thing. He has really started to enjoy the whole experience. It started a couple weekends ago with a campout. It was called skills camp and it was an introduction into the whole boy scout thing. They really love to have the parents come out and watch at any point in the weekend and want to have the dad's spend the night. So, me being the great outdoorsman that I am, hustled out to the red river and camped a night. Dang it - it was the coldest night of my life. I had fun with A before we went to bed and it was fun seeing him interact with the other boys. He really loves being outside and exploring so it was right up his ally. We got the joy of hearing the coyotes howl (which is creepy), and the wild turkeys do whatever they do. I went over to the edge of the trees at one point to shine my flashlight, just to see what I could see, and there was an amazing loud sound crunching on the leaves. Needless to say I backed up quick and turned the light off. I'm betting a bear or cougar but I guess it could have been a raccoon. I left after one night but Alec stayed three full days and two nights in the cold and rain. He had a blast! I was expecting after my first night that he would be coming home early but he stayed and was a happy camper. It was funny when he came in the door and hugged the t.v., computer and his video games. It sounds like a thing an old man would say but its amazing how getting outside can clear your mind and cleanse the need for gadgets. I did take my blackberry by the way - but beyond that I was roughing it! Anyway I'm so proud of him and last night he had his induction ceremony into the boy scouts and I am a very proud dad. I just need to be careful of the bears on our next camp out. It had to be a grizzly!

Blackberry addiction

If you are a faithful reader of my wife's blog you know by now that I'm here in Texas with Alec and Owen. She is in L.A. with the middle boy Evan. She has been gone since Thursday afternoon and arrives aback tonight late. It has been a challenge to say the least. I had two games out of town with MSU on Sat. and took Alec with me. He was great, I'm not sure he had a great time but he didn't hate it. Owen stayed with Dail and Debbie and I thank them immensely. Yesterday I had another game with MSU here and my friend John's fiance' and my neighbors (thank you Jeff and Christina) watch the Owen. Poor guy has had a lot of different people watching over him. He has not been feeling very well lately so he has not been a ray of sunshine to watch. Alec has been great and is pretty self sufficient as a lot of 11yr. old's think they are.

I am the proud owner of a blackberry. Wow talk about dumb why would anyone who struggles to pay attention own a phone that beeps when it rings, gets emails, texts, and also allows me to get on the Internet. I love it but the thing is a bit out of my league! I do find myself being a tad bit more organized (it has my Microsoft outlook on it).

Lost has been fun. I find myself narrowing my t.v. choices down. Is it my age or the writers strike? It doesn't seem like there are many options of good shows. All my shows are on one night - American Idol is killing me by the way. I don't watch it and having a show on more than once a week is tedious. Its kind of cocky for Fox to think people will watch it - oh wait everyone watches it! I choose to stick with Celebrity apprentice, survivor, and Lost. All on Thursday night. Not sure what I do the other nights maybe I should keep a diary to monitor myself.

These were five of the 16 stories under the latest news heading on Fox news.com I understand its a national news web site but still - these headings are apparently what attract viewers to the web site. I think I got depressed just reading the headings. Its just really a sad world at times. Again I know anyone can pick these headings out on web sites but this was the first thing I saw on foxnews and it just struck me as being depressing. Why not a story about something positive. There has to be some "latest news" on positive things - right? I don't know maybe I'm depressed because Favre retired but what a beat down of a front page to a web site!

My wife leaves today (with Evan) to go to Cali. We will miss her - poor Jeff, Alec and Owen. This weekend I go to OU to play a scrimmage all day with my college girls. I'm taking Alec and O is staying with our friends. Then we have a club team coming in on Sunday and I have to find someone else to watch the poor two year old. Well at least I'm not going to Dallas for club games both days.

I survived my operation. They cut a four inch line in my side to get out a lil lump. Apparently they had to dig deep to make sure it was all out. I have been a tad sore the last couple of days. Kelly has been very good taking care of me. The boys think the stitches are cool - so I got that working for me. Note to others: don't take two Darvocet on an empty stomach. Its hard to function to say the least.
