I know its been a few hours since my last blog. I apoligize and can only hope that I will do better in the future.
I was driving today and heard this song and it hit me like a ton of bricks. I used to not be a big fan of Christian music - except for MWS and a few select others (Petra). I never really loved listening to KLOVE (not big on the name) but my friend Mike (Cook) kept on me for two years to try this station out. I have really enjoyed it. Which gets me to my point. I heard this song and it just knocked me over. Here are the lyrics then I'll explain why it affected me.
Almighty God, the great I am
Immovable rock, omnipotent, powerful, awesome Lord
Victorious warrior, commanding King of Kings
Mighty conqueror, and the only time the only time
I ever saw Him run
CHORUS: Was when He ran to me, He took me in His arms
Held my head to His chest, said “My son’s come home again”
Lifted my face, wiped the tears from my eyes
With forgiveness in His voice He said,“Son do you know I still love you?”
He caught me by surprise when God ran
The day I left home I knew I’d broken His heart
And I wondered then if things could ever be the same
Then one night I remembered His love for me
And down that dusty road ahead I could see
It was the only time – it was the only time I ever saw Him run
And then He ran to me, He took me in His arms
Held my head to His chest, said “My son’s come home again”
Lifted my face, wiped the tears from my eyes
With forgiveness in His voice He said,
“Son do you know I still love you?”
He caught me by surprise as He brought me to my knees
When God ran – I saw Him run to me
BRIDGE: I was so ashamed, all alone and so far away
But now I know He’s been waiting for this day
I saw Him run to me, He took me in His arms
Held my head to His chest, said “My son’s come home again”
Lifted my face, wiped the tears from my eyes
With forgiveness in His voice I felt His love for me again
He ran to me, He took me in His arms
Held my head to His chest, said “My son’s come home again”
Lifted my face, wiped the tears from my eyes
With forgiveness in His voice He said, “Son”, He called me Son
He said, “Son do you know I still love you?”
He ran to me and then I ran to Him
When God ran
Now thats not exactly my first instinct when I confess my sins or come back to God's arms. I know, I know... thats what everyone should think. I always have the following....
Jeff - I'm sorry, I confess my sins and need you.
God - I forgive you and love you... don't do it again.
Your thinking "Jeff, you are an idiot". Thats nothing new. I am an idiot but besides that, I really have that quick reaction to asking forgivness from God.
This song brings out a whole new warmth to my heart. God would pick me up and hug me and forgive me. Wow! Don't get Fruedian on me either - my parents gave me plenty of hugs and love. I guess its dwelling to much on how powerful God is and not enough on his Love. I hear all the time - how much He loves me but this allows me to really wrap my mind and heart around it.

That is one of the top songs that I love to hear. There is also one that God says; What sin, what sin ? It is as far away as the East is from the West buried in the Sea of Forgetfulness. This is true but so...hard for us to wrap our human minds around. Love Ya, Your Mom
XOXO
great song I will have to keep and ear out for it.
I gotta tell ya Son(in-law), I love that song also and just the other day I realized I always think of God with a serious look on His face but it finally occured to me that it really does bring a smile to his face when we obey or do things that bring glory to His name. It brings Him great joy to see His will fulfilled in our lives. What an awesome God we serve!!
Jeff,
It's one of the best songs out there. Agree with all you said.
