Running Update

Well how are things going out there? Things are getting really busy here - we have preseason soccer starting the 10th of August and a lot of emailing and phone calling to do before then. This is a fun time of year because its almost time to really see what the '08 team will look like when they all come to practice. Plus I absolutely hate being on the phone and doing all the paperwork so I can finally get back to the practice field and actually coach soccer.
Running has been going well. I love it, I really do. For some reason the older I get the more time I need to think things through. Probably not quite as sharp as I was in the early days of my life. Anyway being out running for 4 or 5 miles gives me the time to process all that's going on. I don't even take an Ipod with me and it still goes quick. Trust me I'm not running quick but thinking about all the stuff I need to do or have done makes the run go fast. The bad news is my knees are killing me. No its not the old man thing. Trust me I know I'm not 20 anymore its more just flat out pain in my knee caps. My legs are always tired - I know that feeling, its something more. I'm going to try a different course - I'm running on to uneven ground. I will also try to actually buy some good running shoes. I really want to get to the 10 mile mark but have been stuck at five for too long. I'll keep you updated. You kids stay out of trouble - hugs not drugs.

Running not jogging

I just was informed that running and jogging are not the same thing. Running is a process with jogging being a off and on thing apparently. I just got done telling Kirk - after being chastised - that what I was doing was jogging because I hadn't gone over two miles. Well the last three days I've ran each day two and a half miles. Each day with a better time. The first day struggled, yesterday I didn't run til the evening and that was after we ate at flat top grill.
Flat top grill is this really cool restaurant where you chose all the ingredients for your stir fry. So I tried three separate plates one with chicken beef then back to chicken. Any veggie you want you can put in it and add any sauce, its really challenging to get the right flavor.
Any who ate like a pig then ran two hours later. UGHH I about died but completed it. My running guru Kirk advised that sometimes you need to change it up. So I decided to go for a mile run then go with the fam to the water park. No dice had to run the two and a half mile course. I'm dead but feel good about working out.

Vacation

Well we are up here in the promised land of Ohio. This really has develoed into a great place to spend a couple weeks during the summer. The boys are getting older so they are on their own outside which makes it fun watching them play. The weather is usually nice and even in this age of 1,000 ways to reach a person I feel disconnected from most of my worries, which is awesome.
As I type I'm incredibly sore. I have decided to start jogging ("I think the J is silent"- gotta love Anchorman). So its been five straight days and today I ran 2.5 miles. The other four days I wasn't sore after the jogs, today would be a different story. Anyway I'll keep you updated on my progress. Basically all I'm doing is watching a lot of Reds baseball games (regional coverage) and reading a lot - paradise.
