Blurbs

Dallas Cowboys - Embarrassing. The one thing I noticed about Dallas late in the year (forget all the analyzing and X's and O'x) they could not recover from a mistake. That goes directly to a chemistry and leadership issue. I love Romo but he is not a crisis leader. T.O. is immature and selfish - that's a surprise. Nobody on defense will/can even remotely inspire others. Look at Ray Lewis for the Ravens he will hold everyone accountable, Dallas has no one.

Ohio State - They showed up against UT. For that I'm extremely happy. Too many missed opportunities cost them the game. I do feel good about the game though and am excited for next year. They seem to be a program that reloads and their going to need to. No Laurinaitis and Jenkins on Defense and that will hurt. Pryor will do work on offense and that will be a positive - so overall excited.

Four Christmas - saw this over break and not a bad movie. Not a great one either. I'm to the point where if I go to a movie theatre I want to see an epic film or a great action film. I don't need comedy on the big screen. I guess its because Comedy translates so well to the small screen that 10 bucks to see a movie doesn't make it worth it.

Some Kind of Monster - Saw the Metallica Film again the other day. I can't take my eyes off of it when I catch it on VH1. I have seen it three times on DVD and a few on VH1 (which obviously has deleted a few scenes). It is simply one of the best Rock films made. You can't make up the drama this film has. It simply started as a promotional behind the scenes look at M making their album. It then turns into something you can't stop watching. Granted I love Metallica but the music is only 25% of the film. The other 75% is the band coming apart at the seams. It does have a lot of language issues in it but nothing of the sexual stuff.

Truck is breaking down every five minutes. I honestly got to the point the other night where I wanted to take a sledge hammer to it - no lie!

Back to the 190 weight and I'll get back down to 180 before summer. I do this every year, it can't be healthy to bounce around like this - can it?

I have the "I can do it tomorrow" mind set with work. I hate that thought, trying to break out of it.

Two words I have a terrible time spelling, that should be easy - awesome, and surprise. I always spell them awsome and suprise - ughh

West Wing

Well how was every ones Christmas? Mine went very well so thanks for asking! I have talked with three or four friends and they have responded that they got "this or that" but their tone and words have said they liked "one or two gifts" but the others were just "o.k.". I really love the way my mom and mom in law go about Christmas. They ask me or my wife (about me) and get those things accordingly. That doesn't mean they aren't creative but they take my personality and likes into account before buying me a gift. Therefore 99.9% of my gifts I love. This year was no exception. I received a my Civil War stuff, books, video games (yes I'm 38), and DVDs of television shows!I also received other great gifts but no one wants me to go through them all - if you are still reading this right now after a boring first paragraph.
Presently I am watching West Wing season one. I really forgot what a great show this was. Toward the end (season 7) the writers let too much of their own political agenda in and lost the fun of the story lines but for about five seasons this was the best. I love the characters and the writing is excellent, its one of my favorite shows of all time. I hope you all have a great holidays.

Great shows

I think we all know that I love to wait for shows to be out for three or four seasons and then get them on DVD and watch them one season at a time. This brings about numerous problems.
1. I always catch promos for season four episode two when I'm beginning season three.
2. Like with CSI (which I haven't completed season 1 yet) I tend to be behind the trend as far as cool shows. "don't you just love the new show CSI on CBS, Jeff?" "Well Steve, I'm still on season four of Little house on the Prairie" (what I did there was simulate a conversation)
3. Deaths - a character dying in a series and me noticing on the promo that this will happen really ruins the season before - kinda the same as point one but I wanted to have more points.
4. I have to wait til the seasons come out on DVD before proceeding. Still waiting for the next season of Rescue Me.

So I'm sure your asking yourself "This looks like a great way for Jeff to tell us what new DVD he's currently watching"
The show is called Mad Men and its about AD men that work on Madison Avenue back in the early 60's. It's just flat out good acting and great story lines. Plus you get to see what its like when Men were Men and Women were not well respected. I'm not endorsing this at all by the way. Everyone apparently used to smoke and dinner was always on the table when the men got home. Anyway it is a great show and now I have to wait for season two to come out on DVD - see point four above.
I'm also really enjoying Mayne Street a new web show on ESPN. Its about one of my favorite ESPN anchors Kenny Mayne and is well written with a lot of humor in each three to five minute episode. Check it out people its gooodd.

Fun ...boring times

So everything has officially slowed down. The students are in finals, I got caught up with all my paperwork, and all soccer practices are done til March. This is my fun, slow, boring itme of the year.
Iam excited about my buckeyes playing in a BCS game - although I have to hear about UT all month and how much they are going to suppossedly kill The OSU. We are playing better offensively and our defense has always been good. UT isn't as fast as a few other teams so I'm (totally unbiasedly) picking OSU by three. Is unbiasedly a word?
Cowboys are sucking the very life out of me. They are playing awesome defense and not bad offense - if Romo will stop throwing ints! INTs are interceptions - Alyssa - if you are still reading blogs. This will be a good game on Sunday night! The Giants are ready to get beat in Texas stadium.
My boys have discovered the joy of playing MADDEN. So therefore their father has rediscovered the joy of MADDEN. Fun times, except when the 8 yr. old throws a hail mary pass in the last seconds of a game and beats the father. Then proceeds to run around talking smack for the next few minutes. Ya gotta love joy!
Kelly is working probably eight or more hours a day on her shoots and the pictures. She is stressed beyond belief but is doing what she loves and is great at it. (browny points!) She really is working hard and having fun so thats got to be a good thing.
Well now that it has all slowed down hopefully I'll blog more often!

Update #2

Whats up everyone - if there is still anyone out there.

We finished the season 14-7 and won 8 games in a row at one stretch. Lost in the semi -finals of the conference tourney, we didn't play well at all in that game. It really was a fun year and I really wasn't ready for it to end. Every coach will say that but we really had a good team that could have done well if we got in the NCAA tournament.

The family is doing great. Kel has really been busy working for Micki and on her own business. Shes having a great time and really taking great pictures. The boys are doing well also. Alec is starting to get this 6 grade style down. The pressure to be cool, figure out girls, keep the grades up and find his niche' in the class. When I step back and look at it - it can't be all that fun for a guy. Evan is Evan still playing fourteen sports and doing well in his class. He tends to get lazy at times with school work so we have to make sure we're paying attention. Its just a laid back fun loving boy - we'll see how that translates into his teenage years. Owen is a typical baby of the family. He asks thousands of questions and gets into everything. He follows me around everywhere and I wouldn't want it any other way!

Buckeyes are doing well although the whole season will be ruined if we lose to Michigan. Ugh I hate that word.

Cowboys will make the playoffs. No guarantees on how long they will last but they'll get in.

Thoughts
First of all its been awhile and I apoligize - heres whats happening

We are now 8-6 and have played 8 consecutive games on the road, my girls are so sick of bus trips!! We are starting to play good soccer and I think this team is veryy talanted which makes the fact that we have lost games insane.

Here are some examples of the season

We have tied a game with 1 sec. left (we won in overtime)
Lost a game in Double overtime
Scored to win with 28 seconds left in a game
Won another in overtime on a penalty kick

We have won our last two games so that puts me in a better mood - last week we lost two in a row and that usually doesn't happen. It put me in what I like to call a dark mood for four days. Thats where I usually don't have much to say and like to stay away from people (even more than usual). Things are better now, winning really tends to help my moods. My wife has been amazing dealing once again with me and a soccer season. I have been gone the last four weekends and with the boys that a lot of stress on her. I really appreciate it honey!

Red Sox lost last night so thats very depressing and the Cowboys aren't playing well at all! I will not waste one second on the Rays vs. Phillies World Series. Ridiculous!! Watching the Red Sox lose in Tampa Bay in that cheap ugly stadium was not fun at all!! At least it wasn't to the Yanks!

Not a very good start to the season! I really feel I'm to blame in this circumstance. For one I'm the coach so I've got that going for me. The other reason is these two teams were talented, we are also, but for us to play them the first two games of the year was ambitious to say the least. I wish I would of had a couple games before playing such big regional games. I guess thats why I'm still growing as a coach in my 11th year.
Losing is just awful. Its never good at the College level becauseyou are always paranoid of job security. At least I am, I'm one of the most paranoid people anyway so this job just pushes me over the edge. The other reason is losing a game(s) and having to wait a week before we play again, it kills me! Its not bad at practice because I feel like I'm doing something to make us better but outside of practice theres this clock in my head waiting for the next game! The clock is somehow connected to the acid that just bounces around in my stomach during the week.
I have to say though that I am impressed with my team. If we figure out how to defend better (lost two all region defenders to graduation) we will be a good team this year. Until then..Tick, Tick, Tick

I really don't know what to say. Today I have the opportunity to celebrate 15 years of marriage with Kel. My first instinct was to go on and on about my beautiful wife - which I will do. First let me say that without the Lord of my life this wouldn't be possible. Every marriage has challenges and ours is no different. We honestly had a point in our marriage that it could have gone either way as far as us still being together. I don't say this to be negative on such a great day but to be realistic and humble. Our marriage is successful because of our love and belief in God. I knew when I was going to blog about this day that credit to God should be the first thing I give.
My wife is exciting to say the least. I can really get into these patterns of habits. I love to do the same thing and be consistent with my life. Different days, I do the same things. Mondays - go to Rob's, Tuesd. Kel goes out, Wed. youth group night, you all see where this is going. I'm convinced thats why I have Kel. She respects the fact that I'm lost without predictability - I can't function when plans change. She still makes things exciting, in my very Dr. Spock (the star trek dude not the other dude who writes books about kids) like way of thinking. Her sense of humor is the best for me. No one gets my sarcasm like her. People think this guy is weird - and she gets the exact things I'm poking fun at. It also takes a special woman that can tell you how good you look then a half an hour later say "what wrong with your hair?" She challenges me daily and is patient in the same 24 hour period. Trust me I'm a moody, selfish, immature handful - just ask her friends - but she loves me and is patient. I think the thing to say is we all are flawed but finding someone to love us and make us feel special is rare - and I have that!

300

I have officially started the 300 workout. I'm still running four days a week but I wanted to try lifting a little (key word). I was invited to workout twice a week by Derek McDreamy Hughes and Paul McSteamy Walker. Derek had been doing this most of the summer and Paul just started before me so he wanted a new victim to join. We have a host of other characters involved: Jim Chandler, Charlie Eipper, Brian Wetherbee.

Coach Garfield (the def. coor. for Rider high) is the man that allows us to feel like small school children during this workout. Its simply the hardest 25 minute workout I will and have ever done. We do 300 reps of different weight all while trying to get our set done and move quickly to the next. This is not my normal - bench then sit on the weight bench and look around and then start benching again five minutes later - type of workout. We go from one station to another (usually about 6 or 7 total) and each station touches aka crushes on some different muscle group. We usually do 25 reps at each station til we get to the 300. We go through the thing twice which makes the second time around just a joy!
Its the best feeling in the world when you are done because I am totally exhausted. I really love that feeling, at least I know I still have some athletic traits. We usually go out to eat after and all sit and complain. Well Charlie usually just eats and listens to us complain. I'm being serious when I say its a great, exhausting work out thats a lot of fun. I just wish I had a Mcsomething nickname!

Fishing for badmintons

Hey all you party people. I forgot to inform everyone of my new title, World champion of badmiton. My friend Rob has a cabin down at Lake Graham and we have always ventured down there for fishing, relaxing, fishing and the World championship of Badmiton. The first five years were a disaster for Team Trimble. The fishing was good, food was great but not so successful on the court. We would always stay for two or three days and eat just great meals of fish, steak, chicken, and big breakfasts. Plus the time on the lake was great. Although the real purpose of the trip was to see who could win the World Championship! If you need to know, for the first five years of competition, I won once. I have to say though that this was big time. We would have our own uniforms and sponserships. We even had a year where we played through two days of rain (Rob's mom was not very happy with the yard being torn to pieces). There seemed to always be one big ugly theme - Rob won and I lost. I won the first time we played then suffered five consecutive loses and humiliation commenced. Kelly would refuse my calls, fish stopped biting on my hook, and Alec in my last year of defeat, changed his name. Times were tough kids. So about ten years have passed and we found some time to get back down to the Lake a week ago. We fished for three hours the first day then decided it was time. Badmiton net went up, rope for the lines went down and the press came a callin'. I have to say the first match was a match to remember. Rob up one game to none, Trimble wins game two, Rob cruises in game three, Jeffy battles and forces the final game five. Jeffy promptly gets routed in the fifth game and loses again. That's not all young readers, the best thing Jeff does all weekend commences next, he gets another match. The next day the press came back with anticipation of what the old 37 year old could do. I'm technically two hours older than Rob - weird I know, but we were born on the same day - same year with me getting the two hour head start. Well it payed off, I captured the next match three games to one!! We started a third and deciding match with him winning the first two games but were unable to finish because of light. I mysteriously didn't ask to play our last day. So I hold the trophy and the pride of knowing out of eight matches I have won two but right now I, Jeffrey Scott Trimble, am the defending champ. Here's hoping we never get the chance to play again - like Brett Favre I'm retiring, crap never mind.

Running Update

Well how are things going out there? Things are getting really busy here - we have preseason soccer starting the 10th of August and a lot of emailing and phone calling to do before then. This is a fun time of year because its almost time to really see what the '08 team will look like when they all come to practice. Plus I absolutely hate being on the phone and doing all the paperwork so I can finally get back to the practice field and actually coach soccer.
Running has been going well. I love it, I really do. For some reason the older I get the more time I need to think things through. Probably not quite as sharp as I was in the early days of my life. Anyway being out running for 4 or 5 miles gives me the time to process all that's going on. I don't even take an Ipod with me and it still goes quick. Trust me I'm not running quick but thinking about all the stuff I need to do or have done makes the run go fast. The bad news is my knees are killing me. No its not the old man thing. Trust me I know I'm not 20 anymore its more just flat out pain in my knee caps. My legs are always tired - I know that feeling, its something more. I'm going to try a different course - I'm running on to uneven ground. I will also try to actually buy some good running shoes. I really want to get to the 10 mile mark but have been stuck at five for too long. I'll keep you updated. You kids stay out of trouble - hugs not drugs.

Running not jogging

I just was informed that running and jogging are not the same thing. Running is a process with jogging being a off and on thing apparently. I just got done telling Kirk - after being chastised - that what I was doing was jogging because I hadn't gone over two miles. Well the last three days I've ran each day two and a half miles. Each day with a better time. The first day struggled, yesterday I didn't run til the evening and that was after we ate at flat top grill.
Flat top grill is this really cool restaurant where you chose all the ingredients for your stir fry. So I tried three separate plates one with chicken beef then back to chicken. Any veggie you want you can put in it and add any sauce, its really challenging to get the right flavor.
Any who ate like a pig then ran two hours later. UGHH I about died but completed it. My running guru Kirk advised that sometimes you need to change it up. So I decided to go for a mile run then go with the fam to the water park. No dice had to run the two and a half mile course. I'm dead but feel good about working out.

Vacation

Well we are up here in the promised land of Ohio. This really has develoed into a great place to spend a couple weeks during the summer. The boys are getting older so they are on their own outside which makes it fun watching them play. The weather is usually nice and even in this age of 1,000 ways to reach a person I feel disconnected from most of my worries, which is awesome.
As I type I'm incredibly sore. I have decided to start jogging ("I think the J is silent"- gotta love Anchorman). So its been five straight days and today I ran 2.5 miles. The other four days I wasn't sore after the jogs, today would be a different story. Anyway I'll keep you updated on my progress. Basically all I'm doing is watching a lot of Reds baseball games (regional coverage) and reading a lot - paradise.

Soccer time and thoughts

So its time to get back to the job. I really like the summers but they don't last that long anymore. I work and have for 15 years with the local soccer club. Now its time for tryouts and we go to a tournament this weekend. I'm kind of excited and still the older I get the less I wanna go to Dallas for a weekend.

I am going to get my wife to teach me how to pics up on my blogs - I'm convinced that this the worlds most boring blog site.

Schilling is going to have season ending shoulder surgery and probably be done pitching for the rest of his career. Not good if your a BoSox fan but he tends to over dramatize things so maybe he'll be back next year.

Pacman jones wants to be called Adam now - his real name. Heres a deal "pacman" make it through a season with no arrests and I'll call you whatever you want.

I'm watching Rescue Me season 4 on DVD - awesome!!!!

Thoughts

I just got back from watching Boston win the NBA title with Rob. I've been in L.A. the last four days and I missed the usual "Rob" night. Which is every Monday, so I had the opportunity to go to Rob's tonight for game six of the series. Boston wins... well its not my fav. team but I'm happy because I got to have another best friends moment. Wow, Boston was good and the story of Ray Allens son having diebetes (sp.) is amazing.
Our trip to L.A. was great. My Bro. in law is so giving. He shared a big night in his life with us (awards show). Then the next few days -he used up all his time making sure we had awesome experiences. For a selfish guy like me, it makes me really rethink how I share my time with others. He took me to GAME 5 of the NBA FINALS - are you kidding me. I need to give a big thank you to Mike. I can't tell you the times he asked if I was having fun - the whole weekend was a blast. One thing I need to say - its really not because of what he did this weekend(which was special) but really what I knew he was trying to do to make the weekend great for Kel and me- that was unbelieveable. Trust me what he did was awesome but I knew he did everything out of love and thats really special.
The boys (Alec and Evan) are in Wisconsin with my sis, Lisa, at Camp Forest Springs (where she works). Another great sacrific. They arrived off the plane and she had them stay with her for a couple nights til the camp week started. Thanks also to my soon to be bro-in law nick- named Herbie (real name Michael) for helping Lis with this chore. Once again a great example of sacrific.

Cubs lose

So Evan started his baseball tournament last night. They lost in the first round to a team they run ruled the last time we played them. We struck out 11 times! 11 times in a machine pitch game - it was awful. Evan had one of those which just thrilled me to no end. Luckily I was out beyond the fence watching my two year old so he didn't hear my displeasure. He ended up playing well, making some plays and hit the other time up but still it was no bueno.

Observations:
Baseball parents are worse than soccer parents. Its amazing, I'm convinced its because soccer isn't as popular so that parents can't really state an opinion. They have not played and lack some knowledge on the game. A lot of parents have played and watched baseball so they have their given right to state opinions. They think at least and are more than ready to state away.

Be careful when you gossip about how bad other parents are, you always seem to get close or below their level if your not careful.

Its 8 yr. old baseball - there are no scouts - mistakes can occur without the world ending.

Watching him have fun was the best part of the year!

Updates

Me - I'm in the most boring part of the year. After school ends and before camp and club practices begin. Trying to get the backyard in shape. Spending time with the boys. These two weeks remind me that I really am a creature that loves routine and although I complain, likes to be busy. The same old evil in my coaching is rising up, it's time for me to give out scholarships - which is just a beatdown. Everyone wants money and every parent feels their beautiful child deserves it. AGHH.

Kelly - Is getting prettier the more I look at her. It's like a morning breeze everytime she walks into the room. I thank the Lord everyday that she's my wife - it's like watching the Red Sox and Cowboys play and win their champiopnships on the same day when I'm with her. HaHa maybe exaggerating a little but she is awesome and we are having an awesome time together. She really is my best friend and no one gets my dumb humor like she does. Plus she's hot so that's a bonus.

Alec - I strive to continue to get closer to my oldest boy. We have the most in common, which is not always good. I know where he's coming from but sometimes it hits too close to home. I really strive to keep a good relationship with him plus continue to keep him in check. This, with his personality, doesn't always work really well. He's doing great in scouts and loves to read. I praise the Lord he gave me a boy that doesn't have sports in his interests because it really has given me an awesome challenge to grow. He's such an introvert that its great to watch because I seem to know the path he's going down before he's there and I feel like I can really help.

Evan - I struggle at this part because he has a personality that I would love to have as a person much less having a child like that. He's so tigger, with a laid back side. He's bouncy and popular. He also is really cool with the fact that if things go wrong or right he'll be o.k. I like to challenge him to make friends with all people he comes in contact with. He is somewhat of a leader without trying. He is sensitive and will have challenges but he seems to roll with the punches, which will keep him having fun.

Owen - Look up youngest child in the dictionary and you see this precious, slightly spoiled youngster. He rules the house with an iron fist. He is doing great learning to scooter around the outside and inside of the house. Plus has a battery operated four wheeler to hit the backyard with. He actually rides it and tops it out at 1 mile an hour (thank you uncle rob and aunt stacy). He is really a blessing and its fun to watch him grow. It doesn't hurt that he loves his daddy although mommy is making up some ground - I gotta send her back to work.

NHL - I'm proud of the league. They have made it back from the strike and t.v. audiences are getting bigger. Plus they picked up ESPN for next year so they will get back to where they were or pass it. The avalanche have to get better for me to be truly happy. It wouldn't kill me to have the BlueJackets in the playoffs either!

Scout - Still the dog of the family, which is what her goal was last year this time. She looks like shes growing as a dog - more mature and seems to be at peace at where she is in life.
