Day 2

Its actually the morning of the 3rd day and I'm still alive. Yesterday was veggie day and it was a little harder than anticipated. I guess eating the soup with veggies in it everyday kinda kills your lust for the vegs. We went to the Burney's last night and they made roast and rice - aghhh. It was sooo bad - I was going to just taste the roast but I stuck to my guns and had none. I did get to have a baked potato though!! I have seen a place close to Heaven and it was that potato. I actually got filled up on it which I loved! I worked out this morning and couldn't really feel a difference as far as getting too tired. I have to remember to drink water because I can easily see myself getting dehydrated. I get to go to Rob's for my Monday night steak and Kool Aid night without Kool Aid or steak. Water and veggies anyone?

Day One

If you have not read my wife's blog then you don't know that we are both starting the Sacred Heart Diet. This is one of those diets that we can eat all the cabbage, carrot, onion, jalapeno', red pepper, tomato combination soup. I can eat all I want allll day. This doesn't sound too bad but this will be my staple for the next week. Each day I'm allowed something else - today was fruit day. Tomorrow is Veggie day with one potato allowed. Then Monday is combo - veggie and fruit (no potato). Tuesday will be Bananas and skim milk day (awful)! Wednesday is beef day and Thursday is beef and veggie day. We will then finish it all up with brown rice day on Friday! Now this is one week without: eggs, bacon, mashed potatoes, fried food, any alcohol, sweet tea! We are supposed to lose between 10-17 pounds. Now I know as well as anyone that we may lose this weight but we will get some/all of it back. I still want the chance to keep most of it off (I really only want to lose 5 more pounds anyway) and I want to challenge myself and see if I can do this!
Today was an adventure. It really shakes up my routine. I'm not big into fruit so this a challenging day. I had only three (big) bowls of soup and it was filling for a little bit. The problem was seeing the kids eat pizza, or knowing I couldn't walk in a simply grab some chips. This will be a very challenging week - more for my mind and less for the body! I will sit here drinking my black coffee and dream of the one baked potato that I will be allowed tomorrow night and cry a lil tear of anticipation.

Spring Breakinnnn

Well how we doing out there in blog land. We here in the house of the Trimble Clan are enjoying Spring Break. This would be a rather challenging week for the best looking one in the house (me) if not for Karen (my mom-in-law). She is here for the week and with Kel working it allows me to actually get out of the house. Today I get to play golf for the first time in 6 months. All that golf truly provides for me is a glorified stress test but some have actually told me it can be relaxing. They obviously don't play in the usual 100 degree heat here with my golf swing!
March maddness has started and I'm ready to roll. I have over analyzed my bracket to the point of having no clue whom to pick. I'm really not into the office betting pools, I have a little to much competitivness in me without throwing money into the equation! I am however in a number of pools for the pride of being the all knowing basketball game picker! Which with my ego is good enough.
Owen threw out the word DA DA last night. I will choose to think that he was directing it toward me and those will be his first words. I may get a disagreement from the second best looking person in the house (Kelly). I guess time will tell if he can actually realize that he said the words and repeat them!
We rented the movie Facing the Giants last night and really loved it. The boys watched it with us and they really got into the story and the action. It wasnt an Academy award winning acting job but it had a great storyline and the football action was terrific. I really got caught up in it and loved the message. The book for this movie was written by Jerry Jenkins (left behind) and it was well done. The movie was about a football coach who has a number of roadblocks but trusts God to get through them. Anyway - get the movie its well worth seeing.

Show time!

How is all the people in blog land? It was pointed out that my last blog was on the boring and unoriginal side. I will not give the name of my critic but she also pointed out a number of grammatical and spelling errors. They do say that when life (wife) gives you lemons... make lemonade! I therefore will put my best foot forward and try to be better at my blogging in the future.
I have to admit I am really getting into this rent or buy a season of a show and watch it at my own leisure. Leisure would be a terrible word to represent my addiction to any show that I have the whole season. I tend to try to watch all (whatever number) shows in one or two nights. I'm getting up early everyday to workout or I'm quite sure I would stay up most the night to accomplish this goal. My new addiction is Rescue Me a firefighting show starring Denis Leary (Kelly, his name is really spelled with just one n). Its a great show and starts out about 6months after 9/11 with their crew that has lost three of their own to tower two. One of the firefighters lost was Leary's cousin and best friend. The first season deals with his marriage (falling apart), his state of mind (falling apart), his battle with alcohol (falling apart) and basically his life (falling apart). The show is really original and very well written. I know it sounds depressing but it has a good comedic and lighter side to it also. So I'm now half way through season two. I have decided to take this time to list my favs on the seasonal watching of shows of the past few years. I will not however rank the shows seasons - just the shows and how they stack up against one another.

1. Sopranos - just can't beat the acting, writing and idea for the story - I could go on all day but will stop.
2. Deadwood - Combine a western theme and the best written show on television (David Milch)
3. Lost (Season 1 is the only one I saw on DVD - the rest on t.v. and its killing me to wait each week.) Never could wrap my mind around what the next stop in the storyline would be. I loved the premise also.
4. Rescue Me - See above!
5. 24 - (the first five seasons on DVD) the best to watch 24 is on DVD . This waiting between episodes kills the drama for me.
6. Nip/Tuck - Great acting and great idea for a show! Learn to love the characters!
7. X-Files - only bad thing was really only two characters to get invested in but still a great, creative show.
8. The Shield - NYPD with more action and gotta love Michael Chiklis.
9. Alias - Great first three seasons then it died like my dreams of playing in the NHL.
10. Weeds - They get the most out of a creative yet odd premise.

Alive

I just got back from Nashville, Tennessee! As one of the students I took there proclaimed - "Nashville's known for music". My smartalec self had to point out the name of Nashville is "Music City". Ahhh the youth of America. We went for a conference to select entertainment events for the next year here at school.. Had the opportunity to hear Danny Glover (Lethal Weapon, Angels in the outfield, Color Purple) give his ultra Liberal, fight the government speech. You would think he would talk about movies or something the least bit interesting but no he talked about politics. I often enjoy an actor telling me how to think about how I should vote. Of course it was a college crowd so everything he said there was a loud applause for. We also got the chance to see Pat Green - I love Texas country music so naturally - he was awesome. The conference was at the Gaylord Opryland hotel. It has to be one of the biggest hotels in the world. It has a river running through it for goodness sake! I honestly have been in it three times in my life and still get lost. Overall it was a great trip.
My sis is here with us this week. Its great - I think Owen likes it the most because she keeps taking him on walks in his stroller and he loves those.
My wife is trying to get a new vehicle, get our carport fixed, look at possibilities for landscaping, and get a concrete slab to the side of our house. I'm not kidding about any of those. The most famous thing said by my wife is ..." I got the estimate back" Then we start the twenty minute conversation about which shes talking about and how I should have known thats what she meant from the beginning. I'm kidding a little about that. Kinda

Entry for my Blog

I have the worst time trying to figure out what to title these entries. Anyway, what a great Super Bowl!!! I'm so happy for the Colts. Tony Dungy (their coach) is such a class act. I love the way he wasts no time giving the praise to God. Their owner Jim Irsay even gave God a bunch of shout outs. It was great to see Peyton get the monkey off his back with this win. I, of course, went over to Rob's to watch the game. I'm not a real big fan of the Super Bowl party. I don't need a bunch of people having a great time and talking/laughing when I'm trying to watch the game. It cheapens the experience. Sounds a tad psycho but thats how my lil brain works.
I really wasn't big on the commercials this year - a little disappointed. I liked the Oprah and Dave one and the snickers commercial was clever also. My fav was probably the "slapping as a form of saying hello" one.
Alec just told Kelly and me that he was worried because sometime he wonders if our religion is the right one. He reads a lot and I think he has read about other people believing other things and wonders if he has the right one. We told him its o.k. to wonder about that and it doesnt make him bad for doing so. We talked about faith and the historical accuracies of the Bible. Hes big into history. I have to admit though it really caught me off guard. I'm going to have to brush up on my night time logic and not turn my brain off so early because it took me forever to think through it. We plan on revisiting the issue tomorrow.
We did have a good weekend and now I have to get through another 200 days without football! Thats o.k. though because we have a little thing I like to call NASCAR starting on the 18th.
I'm starting to feel the pressure of Valentines Day coming up. I hate this holiday. I'm quite possibly one of the worst gift buyers. Kelly doesn't really want much so it stresses me out a lot. I have an idea of what I'm going to get her its just a matter of purchasing it. I truly don't like the dumb day!

No Football? No Problem!

Holy Cow was Sunday fun. Thats how you take on a Sunday afternoon without football. The fire was definately a scary, adrenaline rush that I didn't see coming. If you missed my wife's blog out car port and roof of our house caught on fire. I was in the back with the dog and noticed a lot of smoke on the side of the house. Kelly was gone with Evan so I got our baby out and Alec then went back to get the dog. It was a very numb feeling as the fire was burning. The important thing was no one was hurt. I lost four flat screen T.V.'s that I had in the storage area - thats what I'm telling the insurance company! I'm kidding - I did lose two sets of cheap golf clubs and a lot of lawn tools. The insurance adjusters have already been out and things are starting to get rolling as far as recovering what we lost. Kelly can't wait, of course, to redesign our new car port or garage or who knows what she will come up with. Heres how that will go! We will get the check and then have some contractors come out. Kel will give them her plans and they will give the bid. She will then drop three things from her plans to get the price back to where we can afford it and we will then will get it built.
I'm addicted to the T.V. show The Shield. You have to remember my lil reader that I love to pick a show that interests me and buy the first season on DVD. If I like it then I sell Kelly's kitchenware to buy the second and third and so on seasons. I'm on the fourth season of this show and love it. I think the word to use is gritty! Its a lil hardcore as far as the violence but I enjoy it. I think the characters are very intriguing and I love the story lines. Don't you love my reviews! The next show I plan to get would have to be Rome on HBO. Anyone watch it? Well kids, keep your heads up, you all seem to be doing a good job - I'll blog more often!

Sin Theory

I have always liked the characters or personalities that are thinkers. The "Mr. Spocks" if you will. I have taken many personalitiy tests and have found that I am much more of a thinker and less of a feeler as the years have gone by. I had no problem with this until now. The last couple of years I am getting tired of thinking through every little thing. Its not even decisions just random things jump up and it takes me twenty minutes to make a conclusion. I'm not kidding, I stop shows (I have DVR -like Tvio) and think about what a character has said before moving on. This is no joke my lil friends! Heres my latest adventure!

My Sin Theory
We have a small lil dot inside of us that is sinlessness. Layered around this dot unfortunately is our sin nature. Its born with us and there is nothing we can do about it. This sin nature will not allow us to be perfect. Thats just the way the cookie crumbles. Outside this sin nature are our layers of sin that have become habits. These layers push us further from our inner dot. It could be lust, gluttony, anger, lying, etc. These things are challenges that strike us each differently but are greater for some than others. You name it we will all have a habit that will keep us challenged. How do we handle such challenges? Our obedience and worship to the Lord allows us to continue to strive to get closer to the dot. Its the opposite of something swollen, the harder you push the closer you get. The more you allow the habit of sin to go untouched the more swollen and further you get from the dot of perfection. So our goal is to keep probing the areas that are affected by sin and work down toward the point of perfection. We will never get there but the less we try the further we will get (from the Lord). I'll take the trying over the allowing the sin to keep me from My Lord. Feeler's feel free to read this a couple times!

Weekends are for fun!

Well things have been going good around here at times. I'm sure if you read my wife's blog you know my middle son has accepted Jesus in his heart which just makes my year. Its so clear too, I have asked him many times about what Jesus did on the cross and why. He always seemed to know but not really understand. He really would give me the pat Sunday School answers so it was really fun to hear him explain it to me!
Alec had a project due today so we worked on it this weekend. Its kinda fun working with him on those things because he seems to enjoy it. The biggest challenge is getting him to concentrate and work on the paper. I think we have it completed but I'm sure my nerves and his feelings are wore out from trying to get it accomplished. Mr. Clever never seemed to have a tough time getting Beaver to listen once "the Beav" messed up.
Evan had another indoor soccer game on Saturday. Its a blast watching him play. He really does well, he loves to play in goal and it about drives me insane. I have to sit down near the goal and "help" him through the whole thing. So far I have done well not being negative and its so fun to see him smile or react when he does something well.
We hungout with Josh and Julie last night and after I got home things went down hill!! I think my lil Owen decided to give me his flu from the other day. I haven't been flu sick in a lot of years so it was an extra treat to spend between 9pm and midnight on the bathroom floor. You can't buy those memories, my lil friend. So here I am today void of all food and water in my body typing away at home. I'm watching the Bill Parcells special on his retirement which just adds to the joy of the last 16 hours! Ohh but it will get better, I can't eat and can't go over to Rob's tonight (he has a child so I don't want to pass it on). I can sit and wait for my wife and two other boys to get sick. This is going to be a fabulous couple of days!

What does Jeff do? He leaves to go watch games on Friday in Dallas knowing that getting back could be dicey! Getting there was perfectly fine and the games I watched were good but something wild happened Friday night.. the storm made it to the Metroplex. So Saturday I left Denton (100 miles from WF) at 8:00a.m. and arrived home at 1:30pm with no nerves left. Has anyone ever gone 20 miles an hour for approximately 60 miles? All the while sliding every 20 feet. Good night it was horrendous.
The NFL games were good this weekend and I had a fire going for three days straight so it was fun. The boys actually did great being inside this whole time. Taking my dog out in the cold was less than fun but hey I survived.
I also had one of my players that wants to walk on this spring get to school this weekend and go toa party, pass out, have two guys drive her back to the dorm, R.A. s get her in the building and she throws up in the foyer. So we're off to a great start this semester. I hope no one associated with my Athletic Director reads this blog!
I have been doing this lil Quiz things(Kirk, Jennifer, Kelly) and everyone quit asking the favorite color question - no one knows people's fav. color and no one cares if you do know. In fact its a tad weird if you know.

Daily life

I'm not even going to go into the whole Ohio State thing. Good night did we not make any adjustments after the Michigan game?? Ohh I still can't believe it. I will not be a fair weather fan though I believe that we will be back!
It wasn't a good weekend to be a Cowboys and Buckeyes fan!
So heres how my day goes - well first let me tell you my responsibilities at work - that word has a lot of i's. Club soccer - out of season, MSU soccer - no students on campus, Student Center - see MSU soccer. I get up and take the kids to school and then head to the office. I stay there until about 11:30 or Noon depending on when the baby wakes from his nap at Kelly's work. Go get the baby from Kel and head home. Kelly usually gets home around two so I head back up to work to check mail and workout. Around four I'm home for the day. This sounds like I have nothing but I guess I'll make up for it when the semester starts, my Spring season starts and I go on a couple trips with students for the student center. For now though its not to bad a job.
I'll be honest my young one is wearing me out! He has to be held almost all the time. The kids whines more than life itself. To be fair hes teething but good night nurse!! I type this as hes at my feet screaming to be held and LaLaLaLa I can't hear himmmmm. Crap that doesn't work -

O.k. one of the games that I watched was the Newlywed Game. Not for the stupid questions but actually I think the premise is awesome. Our office lunch this year they had all the department heads and their secretery's up there and it was hilarious. One Vice President had no clue about any of his secretery's hobbies or history. So in front of the blogging world I, Jeff Trimble, will challenge my wife, Kelly K. Trimble to see if she knows me as well as she thinks. howdy

Whats up out there in blogger land. The vacation is going fast! We are now at my inlaws in Lima. My days alternate between taking the puppy out every thirty minutes - reading James Patterson's new book Cross - watching Battlestar Gallatica (the new series) season one - catching up on emails. Not really much to report. We saw The Departed and I liked it. Ultimately violent and crass but what movie by Scorsese isn't. DeCaprio was really good in it and of course Nickolson is the master! We also saw the new James Bond film which I liked also. It had a good edge to it that allowed it not to be "just another Bond" film. I lost in the "Super Bowl" of my fantasy football league. Very discouraging, Tony Romo and T.O. played their worst game right when I needed them!! All I can do now is get myself prepared next years season!! I actually like that the Fantasy season doesnt last into the late stages of the NFL season. Its good to watch some games and not be obsessed like some guy who has no clue about football and just wants to see stats. My hopes are for Kel and I to get out and see The Good Shepherd. Movies and relaxation are the plans for the next couple of days before we get back to the Falls!

Fantasy Football Greatness

I will allow my wife to give everyone the details of our trip to Ohio (home of the #1 college football team in the Nation, The Ohio State). We are here and everyone is doing great. I do have a new lil pup in my life - shout out to my puppy Scout. I would also like to give a shout out to my wife Kelly for standing by her word NOT to help if we get this dog. "If we get this puppy Jeff, its going to be you who takes care of it". "Yes mommy dearest" hopefully my wife won't read this entry or I'm dead. No, I knew that I would have to take care of her with all the other drama going on in taking forty people across country. My wife did a great job getting three boys and three dogs ready for this trip! Shes Awesome! I love her so much! Hopefully I'm creeping out from under my mommy dearest comment.
Who is in the Super Bowl in the North Texas Dynasty League? Why me, of course, silly reader! The Stonewall Knights (named after my two favorite generals - Stonewall Jackson and Bobby Knight) have become one of two teams to battle for the first ever league championship! Alyssa - Stonewall Jackson was a general for the Confederacy in the Civil War. The Confederacy was the South. The Civil War was a battle in which the Northern States in the U.S. and the Southern states were waging a war over (among other things) Slavery and States rights. Bobby Knight is the greatest college basketball coach of all time. My wife and family are so impressed. Just today Kelly said, "yeah thats cool honey, get off the computer I need to check my email". With love and support from the family it was destiny for me to achieve this lofty stature.

DSM

Day 2 without Kelly started well. The boys got up and we all got ready for our three mile journey to school. This is no easy occassion when you try to load Owen in the car. He has this outstanding new trick where he stiffens his back when you put him in the car seat. Oh the fun then begins, trying to get him to fit into the car seat while he alternates between tightening his legs to arching his back. So I decide to take the entire DSM (During School Mafia/ Dakota, Owen and me) to take the kids to school. Owen and I have to go along but its an added bonus for our newest member our lab Dakota. We get back and its time for our youngest member to take his morning nap! He is scheduled to go down at 9:30 in the A.M. So keeping with the schedule he gets a bottle and goes to his crib (no slang his real crib) and decides to play for 45 minutes all the while talking to his stuffed rabbit. I go let him know that he is a tad off schedule and try to convince him to go to sleep - which results in 20 more minutes of rabbit talk. He finally gets to sleep and the day is off to a hour and half delay! I decide to use this time wisely by watching The Sentinel with Michael Douglas - horrible movie! We then went on the afternoon run to pick the kids up all from school - all members of the DSM not present Dakota was left to guard our headquarters. Then the fun filled after school activies of homework and getting ready for AWANAS. We get that accomplished and the boys polish off a gormet meal of fish sticks and Mac and Cheese. After dropping the two oldest off at church and ran over to the Burney's for chili dogs. This is a meal that really is deceiving. It looks like it could be fun and great to eat..its neither. Anywho back to grab the boys and then the race to baths and snacks and bed.

Things learned yesterday...
1. watch out when feeding Owen and he looks to sneeze.
2. watch out when feeding Owen and he decides to talk and make noises .
3. Got to get a new technique to getting him in his car seat- simple force no longer works.

and so it begins

Day one of the Mr. Mom experiment. It went well so far all the boys are down and asleep and all are still healthy! Kelly left around noon and it was GO time! The boys in school so Owen and I went to Walmart at 2pm for some groceries and a present for a friend. Walmart during the day is one heck of an experience! I had a number of women look and smile at me and I was feeling quite popular. Til I realized Owen was talking or smiling or doing something cute. I'm going to go ahead and assume they were looking at him not me. We then picked up some kids at school around 3pm then over to Old High to drop off the gift. I had to be careful I didnt want Owen to fall asleep in the car. We then ran back home where I got a bottle in him and put him down for a nap. The neighbors then watched him while I picked up Evan from school. We came home killed an hour then off to BBall practice with Evan. I decide to drop Evan off with a mom going into the practice and run back to the store for things I forgot..well as soon as the boy gets in there he falls and hits his head. Of course I'm not there, so the coach takes care of him and I arrive twenty minutes after and things seem to be o.k. Other than all the parents wondering why the deadbeat Dad left his child at his time of need! We then procede home to a baby awake and dinner needing to be done. I feed Owen first then put on some pork chops and mac and cheese for the boys. Big hit - I'm the man so far! I get a little crazy and after dinner decide to give the baby a bath and it works out o.k. Then we kill another half an hour and their in bed. I'm exhausted!! I have to regroup for this to start all over again tomorrow!!

Relief Pitching

I have been wanting to blog lately but with the tragedy I really haven't been very jovial. I'm not even really sure if tragedy is the word - I just know Troy was a great person to get to know and I respected him for what he did and who he was, the amount of time that I got to spend with him here in Wichita Falls.

This brings me to my new challenge... being the real Mr. Mom for three days. My wife is going to fly out to Arizona for Troy's Memorial service. I know what your thinking "well My husband or (if your a guy)", "well I watch the kids when my wife's gone a lot." First things first
1. No backup relatives within 1,000 mile!
2. 9 year old, 6 year old, and wait for it... 8 month old.
3. Owen has the talent to crawl and whine that he wants to be held.. did I say whine.. I mean CRY. So hes mobile enough to track me down while crying. You can't buy that talent!
I just looked up at my calender on the wall in my office and its still on October! - Sorry ADHD moment.
4. I'm more of a relief pitcher - not starter when it comes to watching the kids. I'm not sure my arm can get through the long innings!

I will try to keep everyone on track as far as how the days go. I should journal these three days and write a book entitled "How to break your husband mentally and physically". I am kidding I actually am looking forward to it - kinda.

Things have been going well for me. I think we have the best recruiting class we have had here in twelve years. I am excited about that. We'll see how that translates into wins. Haven't been sick yet this year and have had a couple pretty uneventful weeks so Life is good right now. I'll keep you updated on the next few days!

Road Trip

Well we had a Saturday where I was required to go to Dallas for a couple of club games. I decided to take Alec with me for some father and son time. Heres a couple of observations of my oldest.

*The first 15 minutes of the trip he fit mores words into our conversation than people in the Republic of China. (not sure its a Republic but the words flowed better)

*The boy can read three books on the way to Dallas and back. I had trouble putting in a CD there and back.

*He now requires a Big Mac value meal. Kids meals are gone - I feel a tad bit older today.

*The thrill of watching your Dad coach soccer is right up there with counting the number of people in the Republic of China.

*He really doesn't care that the words Poke'mon and Yu-go-uh' are lost on his 35 year old father - he will be patient and explain every facet of the games to me.

*On the way home he was acting like he had been on the road for twenty hours - I felt like it.

The best was though, as only he could say it, "I love you Dad and I had fun today."
